You are warmly welcome to join us at
the Imagination Club on Wednesday, 23 March at 18h45 for an interactive,
experimental workshop on:
From Mindlessness to Mindfulness
By Tom Meyers
From mindlessness to mindfulness...
- Have you ever said something or written an email to someone on impulse
and regretted it afterwards?
- Have you ever been in a situation where you seemed to have forgotten
everything?
- Have you ever wondered why, at a crucial moment, you couldn’t
remember something?
- Do you suffer from regular panic attacks also called having the
yips?
If so, this presentation will be of interest to you.
- Do you wish to learn how to deal with these moments of momentary
memory loss?
- Do you want to cope better with stress?
- Do you feel you could use a bit more focus, become more stress resistant?
Then we suggest you come to this presentation - with an introduction
of the physiology of stress and where you will learn some easy tools
to master the yips, lessen them over time and become alert, mindful
and focused again. You will go home afterwards with tools that can make
the difference for you.
Stress overcomes us all and is vital for our survival. However chronic
stress can also become a serious health hazard.
One of the many side effects of stress is lowered cognitive functioning
(among many other symptoms stress can also cause sleeping problems,
increased agitation, back problems, lowered immune function...). In
other words mindlessness, which can lead to making the wrong decisions,
cause inspiration numbness, fright, panic, forgetfulness, loss of focus,...
or having the ‘yips’. Yips is a term used mainly in golf
and which denotes the panic moment that overtakes us at a crucial moment.
Writers can also experience this feeling as writer's-block - due to
cortical inhibition. Cortical what? Cortical inhibition is a
term that describes what happens to us when fear, tension or frustration
takes the upper hand and short-circuits memory and thinking. This presentation
“From mindlessness to mindfulness” is all about going from
cortical inhibition back to cortical facilitation and is based on the
principles of Body - Coaching a new approach in elementary health care.
